Federal Minister of Defense Dr. Jung visits WTD 81 in Greding

“On a mission for peace” - The Federal Minister of Defense, Dr. Franz Josef Jung, visited WTD 81 in Greding on 7 July 2008 during his summer trip.

The Federal Minister of Defense, Dr. Franz Josef Jung, visited the Bundeswehr Technical Center for Information Technology and Electronics (WTD 81) in Greding on 7 July 2008. On site, the Minister was given an overview of the tasks and organization of the agency and used the time to talk to the staff and their personnel representations.

First, Gerfried Neuman, the director of WTD 81, presented the agency with its different business areas as well as the location of Greding (Middle Franconia).

In the following, Dr. Jung was informed about specific subjects such as “Technologies in support of network centric operations” and “Force protection against booby traps”. These presentations clearly demonstrated the technical competence of the agency’s staff. During the final press conference, Dr. Jung emphasized the importance of WTD 81 as a center of competence for the Federal Office of Defense Technology and Procurement (BWB) as well as for the Federal Office of the Bundeswehr for Information Management and Information Technology (IT-AmtBw).

The Bundeswehr Technical Center for Information Technology and Electronics is responsible for the testing of material and equipment in the fields of information technology and electronics within the scope of integrated demonstration. Furthermore, WTD 81 initiates and supports various research and technology projects (R&T) within its area of responsibility and analyzes defense materiel of other nations.

Due to its technical expertise, this agency contributes to the specification of technical performance data, the definition of acceptance conditions for systems and their components and thus supports the project management of the BWB and the IT-AmtBw.
