The BWB and its agencies are subordinate to the Directorate General of Armaments at the Federal Ministry of Defense. They thus represent, together with the Federal Office of the Bundeswehr for Information Management and Information Technology (IT-AmtBw), the armament sector below the ministerial level.
The BWB has several subordinate agencies: seven Technical Centers, three Research Institutes, the Naval Arsenal with its installations in Wilhemshaven and Kiel and the liaison office in the USA.
As part of the armament sector, the BWB and its subordinate agencies have the task to ensure that the Bundeswehr demand is met by supplying state-of-the-art technology and modern equipment at economic conditions.
The BWB is headed by a president and one vice-president, who are supported by the Executive Staff, the Central Controlling and the Internal Audit.
The Director of Projects coordinates all measures required for Network Centric Operations.
In addition to the four project divisions the BWB also has three service divisions.
