The Fachinformationsstelle (Technical Information Center) of the BWB

The task of the Technical Information Center of the Federal Office of Defense Technology and Procurement consists in obtaining any technical information which users may require for their work, archiving it and making it available on request.

It offers a wide variety of technical literature and is situated in Koblenz, the main location of the Federal Office of Defense Technology and Procurement (BWB). The information center is part of the organizational structure of the BWB.

History of the BWB Technical Information Center

In 1993, the BWB Defense Technology Library and the BWB Technical Information and Documentation Center were merged and became the Technical Information Center of the BWB (FISt BWB).

After the abolition of the Wehrtechnischer Studienbeauftragter der Bundeswehr (Bundeswehr Representative for Defense Technology Studies, WSB) in 1995, the Technical Information Center also took over the tasks of the WSB Information and Documentation Center.

The BWB military manuals center became part of the Technical Information Center in November 2001.

The foundation of the Bundeswehr IT Office in Koblenz in early 2002 increased the number of users.

The BWB Technical Information Center is the coordinating library for eight technical information centers / technical libraries of the subordinate agencies. Together they provide information for approximately 10,000 users.

Inventory of the BWB Technical Information Center

Currently, the information center holds:

• 125,000 volumes of grey literature (literature not available through the normal bookselling channels like test reports, research and technology reports)
• 60,000 volumes available through normal bookselling channels
• 400 periodicals currently subscribed

• Armaments management

• Contractual partners of the Federal Office of Defense Technology and Procurement
• Staff of the Federal Office of the Bundeswehr for Information Management and Information Technology
• All institutions entitled to participate in the inter-library lending system
• Anyone who is interested (like pupils and students), upon prior notification (telephone) and presentation of identity card:
