Corvette Christened LUDWIGSHAFEN AM RHEIN
Bremen, 09/26/2007.
The fifth corvette of the new class K 130 is called LUDWIGSHAFEN AM RHEIN.

The fifth BRAUNSCHWEIG class corvette (K 130) was christened LUDWIGSHAFEN AM RHEIN at the Fr. Lürssen shipyard in Bremen–Lemwerder on 26 September 2007. The official ceremony in the presence of numerous high-ranking guests was chaired by Dr. Eva Lohse, Chief Mayor of Ludwigshafen am Rhein. Among the guests who attended the ceremony were the Executive Secretary of the Directorate General of Armaments, Thomas Wardecki, as well as other representatives of the Federal Ministry of Defense, guests from the Federal Office of Defense Technology and Procurement and its agencies, the Navy, the city of Ludwigshafen am Rhein and industry.

The corvette LUDWIGSHAFEN AM RHEIN is the last one of five BRAUNSCHWEIG class (K 130) corvettes of the first lot to be procured for the Navy. The Fr. Lürssen Werft Bremen, the Nordseewerke Emden, and Blohm + Voss (Hamburg) cooperate in the construction of the corvette. The three shipbuilding companies involved manufacture modules that are assembled by the respective delivering shipyard. This means that two corvettes each are delivered by the Fr. Lürssen shipyard and the shipyard Blohm + Voss and one corvette is delivered by Nordseewerke Emden.
Prior to being delivered to the Navy, presumably by the end of 2008, the LUDWIGSHAFEN AM RHEIN shall start its comprehensive acceptance trials by midyear 2008. The first two corvettes BRAUNSCHWEIG and MAGDEBURG will be delivered soon.
