Great success of the open day in Oberjettenberg: 50th anniversary of Wehrtechnische Dienststelle für Schutz- und Sondertechnik (WTD 52)

On the occasion of its 50th anniversary the Bundeswehr Technical Center for Protective and Special Technologies (Wehrtechnische Dienststelle für Schutz- und Sondertechnik) located in Oberjettenberg opened its doors on Saturday, 30 June 2007, assisted by ideal weather conditions.

The firing of saluting guns opened the day. Subsequently, the local chaplains celebrated an ecumenical mass in the wayside chapel located in front of the agency.

From the diversified activities offered in the program the visit of the branched tunnel system of the underground construction in the mountain massif of the Reiteralpe was of particular interest for the public. Apart from the demonstration of the protection level that facades offer against terrorist attacks, the presentations of the Navy divers of WTD 71 from Eckernförde was another crowd-puller.

Along with the many other supporting organizations the Federal Office of Defense Technology and Procurement (BWB) presented itself with a booth run by the team “recruitment of young professionals”. In addition, personnel of the Scientific Collection of Defense Engineering Specimens presented historic vehicles which once had been tested in Oberjettenberg.

There were also various activities for children and teenagers : The young visitors e.g. were able to enjoy playing with toy excavators. In addition, a play road and a climbing wall, amongst other things, were a lot of fun to them.

BWB vice president Harald Stein was particularly impressed by the extensive table of events offered, he and the head of the agency, Monika Ganz, were pleased with the fact that the open day found great approval among the population.

Mrs. Ganz thanked the numerous helpers, the soldiers and the many organizations for their support and underlined that the event had only been possible thanks to the great assistance rendered by the participants.
