The corvette ERFURT is one of five BRAUNSCHWEIG class (type K 130) corvettes to be procured for the German Navy. Nordseewerke Emden, Blohm + Voss (Hamburg) and Bremen’s Luerssen Shipyard are involved in the corvette building program. The forebodies are produced in Emden. The ERFURT, the keel of which was laid down in September 2005, is the only one of the five boats which has been assembled and put into operation in Emden.

The ERFURT still has to undergo comprehensive tests before she can finally start the demonstration phase at the end of the year. At the moment, the final acceptance trial is being performed for the lead boat, the BRAUNSCHWEIG, in the western part of the Baltic Sea. The second corvette, the MAGDEBURG, will start the performance demonstration program at the end of April. After the successful acceptance of the vessel by BWB, the navy plans to bring the first two corvettes into service by the end of the year. The two last corvettes are scheduled for launch in June and September 2007 respectively.
