WIESEL 2 Weapon System
The demand of the airmobile combat and combat support forces for a light air-transportable armored vehicle with increased loading capacity and more space compared to WIESEL 1 led to the development of the WIESEL 2 by Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH.
Tried and tested WIESEL 1 chassis components were retained in the WIESEL 2 design. An additional door was added at the rear of the vehicle, enabling the crew to easily mount and dismount and the vehicle to be loaded and unloaded more efficiently.
The survivability of the system as well as its crew is significantly enhanced by the integral NBC protective ventilation system and the combined air conditioning and heating system for the vehicle interior.
Because of its broad spectrum of tasks, the WIESEL 2 Weapon System was designed for command & control tasks, reconnaissance, air defense as well as casualty evacuation.
